2018 Singing Workshops on Skopelos
The 2018 Singing Workshops on Skopelos are to take place over the weekend of Saturday Sunday 1st and Monday 2nd July 2018 with performances during the following week on Tuesday 3rd and Wednesday 4th July.
We will be joined again by well-known Greek tenor Stathis Karagiorgis, who appeared to enjoy himself last year, but unfortunately pianist Nikos Adraskelas and flautist Eleftheria Fragoudaki are unable to attend this year. Instead, we have the great fortune for the instrumental trio Iamvos (piano, trumpet and cello) from Volos to have accepted our invitation to perform with us.
Participation for the two days of rehearsals as well as in all performances is £65. Music to be performed will be circulated well before the dates and either available to download from the Choral Public Domain Library or will be e-mailed to each participant. Examples of the music rehearsed and performed for the last two years is available below as well as a provisional music list for 2018. Each attendee is expected to have copies of their music with them for the first session. Accommodation and travel arrangements must be made separately but please contact us for advice. To book a place at the workshops, please download and return the booking form with fee as below.
Rehearsals this year will be, as last year, at Orfeas on 30th June, an indoor arts facility also acting as a cinema and on 1st July, outdoors at Del Sol, a wonderful site with sea view and a swimming pool for a lunchtime dip! We will be performing at Livadiotissa monastery on 3rd July and Orfeas on 4th July.
For future years, we are honoured also to have been offered Episkopi (or the Bishop's Palace) as an alternative venue for our classical concert, a privately owned and restored Byzantine chapel and gardens.
Below is the provisional music list for this year which is shorter than usual, but considering the success last year, we will concentrate on less to achieve more!
For any further information please e-mail kendal@kendalshepherd.com or call +44-1832-733417. Also see the Factsheet (from 2013 but nothing has changed) below for travel alternatives to Skopelos. Although the easiest way is to book a direct flight to Skiathos with transfer from there (with hotel, eg via Thompsons), some may prefer the more scenic yet labour-intensive routes via Athens or Thessaloniki and Volos. There are as from June 2017 direct British Airways flights from London City Airport to Skiathos during the summer and Easy Jet are now operating flights direct from Gatwick to Volos.
Also check out the Singing Workshops on Skopelos Facebook page and have a look at the singing workshop journal and review for a sanguine opinion of the experience from an attendee in 2015!
